Irish Midlands Ancestry operates under the aegis of the Offaly Historical and Archaeological Society (founded in 1969) and has been involved in Laois (Queen's Co.) - Offaly (King's Co.) family history since 1983. It is a voluntary society and not state funded and hence we need to charge for the research and reports we provide to maintain the service we give and to continue to build up the resources necessary to respond to family history queries.

Parish search and report (all principle sources are included) €189 plus €10 P&P
County search and report (all principle sources are included) €299 plus €10 P&P

The above are guideline prices only.

We are now offering a €10 assessment fee (preliminary research is conducted for your ancestors to determine whether we can be of assistance to you).

Contact Ann or Phyl (info@offalyhistory.com) with your details and they will reply to you within 5 working days.

Parish Report

A typical parish report will contain information on your family group in a situation where you already know the parish from which your ancestors came. If you are not certain of the parish we will search immediate adjoining parishes where necessary. The report will contain from the following:

  • The parish register where extant for the period involved
  • A list of Offaly occupiers in 1824
  • The Tithe Applotment books (1823-1830s)
  • Griffith's Valuation c.1854
  • The 1901 census were relevant or the 1821 census of Ballybritt which covers the area in the district of Birr.
  • A note on the surname where possible
  • A short review of the district or parish from where your ancestors originated, extracted from Samuel Lewis (1837) A Topographical Dictionary of Ireland or some other local source.
  • Maps
  • Relevant photographs, if available

County Report

Where you only know the county of origin a county search will look at all of the sources above named for a parish but will involve a search of these sources for the entire county and will also include

  • A check on the traders and gentry 1824-1908.
  • Tombstone records where available.

The additional cost for a county report rises because of the number of parishes to be consulted (approximately 20 per county).

We also provide county and townland boundary maps for each report.

Our reports are based on many years of experience and much expense in building up resources. The fee once paid is non-refundable but we will endeavour to the best of our ability to provide you with a satisfactory result. However you should note that often it takes a good deal longer to come up with what may be a negative response to a query and is often more time consuming because of the extra search involved in trying to locate your ancestor.

Please note that our reports are intended for private research only and not for publication including the Internet or for use in legal matters.

At this time we are not dealing with parish sources for Church of Ireland registers in Co. Laois (except Portlaoise/Maryborough) and if your ancestor was of the Church of Ireland faith it would be as well to direct your query to the local clergyman.

As you may appreciate reports are time consuming and we will endeavour to have your report concluded within a period of three months.

We look forward to hearing from you should you decide to proceed and please indicate which research option you require as set out on the fees schedule. We accept payment by VISA, Access, MasterCard or Eurocard. Payment by bank draft or personal cheque also acceptable. Our bank will not accept overseas postal orders. Please make payment payable to Irish Midlands Ancestry.

~~Please note that our family history sources are not open to the public. We regret that we cannot conduct free consultations by email due to time constraints.~~
