Lewis Moore II

Lewis Moore of Cremorgan, Queens County was son of Lewis Moore also of Cremorgan and a direct descendant of the O'Moores, Princes of Leix. He married on January 20, 1743 his cousin Christiana a daughter of Pierce Moore of Morden. They had two Sons Henry and Pierce.

Lewis Moore became a magistrate for his native county and a member of the grand jury and in 1760 was High Sheriff for Queens County, a position his father Lewis also held in 1732. I was unable to find out the date of his death. His tomb and the tomb of other members of the O'Moore family in Cremorgan Church were smashed to pieces by vandals some years ago.

Henry Moore

Henry Moore, son of the preceding, was born in 1744. He married in August 1800 (12th) Anne daughter of Mark Scott, the elder brother of John 1st Earl of Clonmel ex M.P. for Portarlington. They had a large family. Like his father he became a magistrate for Queens County a member of the Grand Jury and High Sheriff for Queens County in 1784. He died 31st October 1815 and his wife died in 1829. Like his ancestors he was buried in Cremorgan Church but his grave has been vandalised in recent years.

Lewis Moore III

Lewis Moore, son of the preceding was born 1st February 1800 at Cremorgan House, Timahoe. He married Mary Sarah daughter of Captain Charles Lancelot Sands of India Ville, Queens County, a descendant of Lancelot Sandis M.P. for Portarlington.

Like his father and grandfather he became a Justice of the Peace for Queens County and a member of the Grand Jury. He was High Sherrif for Queens County 1828 and was also a Deputy Lieutenant of the County. His wife died in December 1859 and he died in 1880. He had three Sons Henry his heir and also Charles and Lewis and one daughter Minna who married on the 24th October 1868 the Rt. Hon. Dodgson Hamilton Madden P.C. Judge of the High Court of Justice in Ireland and she died in 1895 but her husband married secondly Jessi Isable daughter of Richard Warburton D.L.J.P. of Garryhinch House, Queens County. Garryhinch House was accidently burnt in 1914 and Cremorgan House one of the most beautiful mansions was pulled down by the Land Commissioners in the 1940s when they divided up the O'Moore estate.

Lewis' brother Henry born 1803 became a Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Army and Thomas another brother born in 1809 became Major General of the Bengal High Cavalry. He married and had one son, the 3rd brother Pierce became a barrister and died unmarried in 1857.
