John FitzPatrickJohn FitzPatrick of Castletown, a decendant of the Princes and Barons of Upper Ossory were given the degree of Doctor of Law by the Duke of Ormond Chancellor of the University of Oxford in 1677. Fought against King James II and died in 1693. He married Elizabeth daughter of Thomas Viscount Thurles and sister of James 1st Duke of Ormond and widow of James Purcell, Baron of Loughmore (Ormond Pallatine title). He left two sons Richard 1st Lord Gowran and Edward. General Edward FitzPatrickEldest son of the proceeding. On the outbreak of the Revolution in England against King James II, he joined an English Regiment supporting the Prince of Orange and was made Colonel of the Royal English Fusiliers. Promoted to the rank of Brigadier General by King William III in October 1694. He never married and was drowned returning to Ireland in a storm 10th November 1696. He left his estates to his brother Richard. Richard Fitzpatrick M.P.Richard Fitzpatrick, 2nd son of Richard 1st Lord Gowran was born in Queen's County 1721. He married Anne daughter of a Mr. Usher of London and by her he left a son and three daughters. All died before him unmarried except his daughter Anne who married John Henry Baron de Roebeck of Naas, Co. Kildare. He was elected M.P. for Galway City in January 1747 and held the seat till his death in April 1761. Back to List |
