Rev. Dr. Patrick Collier, Bishop of Ossory

The most Rev. Dr. Patrick Collier was born in Camross, Mountrath in 1882. Educated at the local national school, St. Kieran's College, Kilkenny and St. Patrick's College, Maynooth, and was ordained there on June 24th, 1907. He was sent on loan to the doicese of Shrewsbury in England and he served there till 1911. That year the Bishop of Ossory Most Rev. Dr. A. Brownrigg, recalled him to Ireland and appointed him a professor in St.Kieran's. In 1921 he became resident curate in Cullohill, two years later he was appointed curate in St.Patrick's parish, Kilkenny. In 1925 he was appointed president of St. Kieran's College. In 1928 he was consecrated Bishop of Himerias and co-adjutor Bishop of Ossory. He succeeded as Bishop of Ossory on October 1st, 1928. He died on January 10th, 1964 and was buried in the grounds of St. Mary's cathedral.
